HOW IT HAPPENED

- The next three frames went scoreless as both sides combined to allow just three baserunners to advance into scoring position.
- Vega extended Duke's edge to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left center field. Her long ball brought in Jennings after she reached on a hit by pitch.
- Jennings sparked a two-out rally in the following frame, slipping a base hit down the left field line to score freshman London Collins, running for classmate Gabriella Shadek. Jennings moved up on a stolen base and wild pitch before coming home on Oakland's infield single. Two batters later, sophomore Layla Lamar drew a bases-loaded walk to add another run and push the gap to 6-0.
- Curd and the Blue Devil defense held strong in the final frame, surrendering a leadoff single to right field but kept the Tigers from moving into scoring position with a fielder's choice and a pair of strikeouts to preserve the shutout.
