RALEIGH, N.C. – Duke dropped the first game of the weekend at NC State, 10-4, April 10th at Doak Field. The Blue Devils (21-15, 7-9 ACC) scored the game's first run in the opening frame, but the Wolfpack (23-11, 7-6 ACC) responded with four runs in the second inning and never looked back.
Kaden Smith led Duke's offense, with two RBI on a fifth-inning double.
Jake Lambdin also tallied a double, going 2-for-4 at the plate overall, and stole home in the first inning for the game's first run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jake Lambdin led off the contest with a double to the right-field wall, and RJ Hamilton advanced him to third with a single to left field. Lambdin broke home on a pickoff to first, sliding past the tag for the game's first run on a steal of home plate.
- The Wolfpack opened their scoring with a three-run homer in the bottom of the second. A soft double down the left-field line with two outs scored NC State's fourth run of the frame.
- NC State took a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run and an RBI bunt.
- After a clean fourth inning by both teams, Kaden Smith smoked a two-RBI double to right-center, bringing Lambdin and Hamilton across the plate to cut Duke's deficit to four, 7-3.
- The Blue Devils continued to chip away, with Adin Zorn posting an RBI single to score Collin Anderson in the top of the sixth. NC State responded in the home half with four runs, establishing a 10-4 lead entering the seventh inning.
- Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest, as the Wolfpack claimed the series-opening victory.
