CLEVELAND, OHIO — Duke wrestling redshirt junior
Connor Barket advanced to day two of the NCAA Championship Thursday evening with an impressive win in the consolation round at Rocket Arena in Cleveland.Â

A native of West Lafayette, Indiana, Barket collected eight points in the final minute of action to defeat 25th-ranked Alex Semenenko of Brown with a 9-1 decision in the first round of the heavyweight consolation bracket. The two were knotted, 1-1, with under a minute remaining, before Barket collected a takedown, near fall and a riding time point to collect the victory, 9-1.Â

The win for Barket in the NCAA Championship was the first of his collegiate career. Barket will next face 10th-ranked David Szuba of Arizona State Friday in the second round.Â

In the first match of the day, 24th-seeded
Connor Barket faced Penn State's ninth-seeded Cole Mirasola. Mirasola opened the first period with a 9-2 lead with three takedowns. Barket registered an escape to kick off the second period to cut the lead to 9-3. Heading into the final two minutes trailing by six, Barket gave up an escape and takedown to fall behind, 13-4, but registered a takedown himself with four seconds remaining as he dropped a 13-7 decision.Â

With the victory, Barket moved to 22-8 on the season and 62-39 over his career.Â
