HIGH POINT, N.C. - Duke fell behind early and couldn't catch High Point, eventually falling, 12-6, at Williard Stadium on Tuesday, March 10. The Panthers (10-7) scored six runs in the first inning, and the Blue Devils (13-6) got within three, 6-3, in the third inning, but couldn't complete the rally.
Collin Anderson and
Jake Lambdin both left the yard for Duke, while
Kaden Smith led the Blue Devils' offense with three RBI.
Tyler Albright worked four walks, his new career high for free passes in a game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- High Point got on the board first, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first.
- After a clean second frame for both teams, the Blue Devils cut the deficit in half with three runs in the top of the third. Collin Anderson led off the inning with a home run to left-center field, his second time going yard this season.
- After a Jake Lambdin double and swipe of third, Tyler Albright worked a walk to put two on for Kaden Smith, who brought both home with a double, to make it a 6-3 affair.
- The hosts responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, with a pair of RBI singles and a third run coming home after a throwing error.Â
- Another RBI double from Smith, once again scoring Albright, made it a 9-4 ballgame in the top of the fifth
- The Panthers expanded the margin back to six runs, 10-4, after a balk brought home a run in the bottom half of the frame.
- Anderson continued his strong day at the plate in the top of the sixth, driving in Anthony Runfola with an RBI single.Â
- High Point moved in front, 12-5, with a pair of run-scoring singles in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Blue Devils scored the final run of the contest in the top of the eighth, with a two-out homer from Lambdin on a full count, for the final scoreline of 12-6.

- Duke (13-6, 1-2 ACC) returns home to host Miami (12-4, 1-2 ACC). The Blue Devils and Hurricanes will start the series with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, March 13.  Â
