DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Baseball has announced the hiring of
Mike Salvino as general manager of the Blue Devils' program. Salvino, who recently served as a faculty member at the Pratt School of Engineering, steps into the Blue Devils' GM role with a goal of building championship teams while also mentoring student-athletes on how to grow their personal brands and prepare for professional careers beyond the game.
Â
"College baseball players today have an unprecedented opportunity," said head baseball coach
Corey Muscara. "NIL rights, social media platforms, and a growing spotlight on the sport mean these young men can build real, marketable personal brands while they're still in school. But most programs aren't equipped to help them do it strategically. With Mike as general manager, we will be."
Â
With the appointment of Salvino as general manager, Duke continues its commitment to advancing its modern approach to college baseball. The Blue Devils are investing in individual growth, marketability, and long-term success to compete at the highest level. Salvino will provide business-oriented expertise to help Muscara and the Duke program establish a national model, via corporate partnerships, NIL infrastructure, and unique career development opportunities.
Â
"We have an opportunity to build something special here," said Salvino. "A program where every player knows they're being invested in, not just as an athlete, but as a leader, a professional, and a person. Winning championships and building successful lives aren't competing priorities; they're the same priority. That will be the Duke Baseball difference that we call 'Beyond Baseball'."
Â
A former collegiate basketball player at Marietta College, Salvino brings a unique perspective that understands the discipline and preparation needed to transition from student-athlete to professional success.
Â
"Mike brings a rare combination of athletic experience, executive leadership, and genuine commitment to student-athlete development," said Duke Vice President and King-Compton Families Director of Athletics
Nina King. "His vision for Duke Baseball aligns perfectly with our institutional values and our belief that we can, and should, be a model for how college athletics prepares young people for life beyond sport."
Â
Salvino joins the baseball program after serving nine years on the Pratt School of Engineering Advisory Board and teaching ENG 190: Business Leadership for Engineers at Duke for the past two years.
Â
"Mike has been an inspiring leader in the Pratt School of Engineering, introducing highly innovative educational programs that train future technology leaders," said Vinik Dean of Engineering, Jerry Lynch. "The impact that he's provided, through his time initially as a member of the school's board and now as a faculty member, has had a far-reaching impact on our students' lives and more broadly, on the trajectory of the school. The Duke baseball program and its student-athletes are very lucky to have Mike on their team, as they will benefit immensely from the unselfish and caring mentorship Mike provides each and every day."
Â
Salvino graduated cum laude from Marietta College in 1987 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Marietta after delivering the commencement address in 2021. Salvino's career spans more than three decades of leadership in technology and business. He began at Andersen Consulting, becoming an associate partner before joining Exult Inc., where he rose to President for the Americas region. In 2006, he joined Accenture, where he ultimately served as Group Chief Executive of Accenture Operations, overseeing 100,000 employees and $7 billion in annual revenue. In 2016, Salvino joined Carrick Capital Partners, where he was a Managing Director focused on investing in outsourcing solutions and machine learning (ML) technologies, and served as Executive Chairman at InfiniaML. He then served as Chairman, President, and CEO of DXC Technology, a Fortune 500 company operating in 70 countries, before his appointment at Duke
