WASHINGTON, D.C. – Duke men's soccer scored a pair of goals less than 15 seconds apart in the dying minutes of an away match at Georgetown, finishing in a 2-2 draw on Friday, Sept. 5. The Blue Devils (2-0-2) received late goals from
Kenan Hot and
Leonardo D'Ambrosio to help secure the dramatic draw in another energetic road environment.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke quickly tested Georgetown's goalkeeper, with Drew Kerr firing off the first shot of the night and forcing a save in the fifth minute.
- Eryk Dymora made his first save of the match in the 11th minute, diving to his left for the stop.
- Axel Gudbjornsson made his first appearance of the season, subbing on in the 25th minute. Two shot attempts by the Hoyas in the following minutes sailed wide of the frame, before a shot by freshman Max Simpson in the 30th minute forced another save by Georgetown.
- The two teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes of play. Duke created the first major scoring chance in the second half, with Thomas Vold heading a service by Drew Kerr on frame, which was tipped over the bar.
- The Hoyas opened the scoring in the 66th minute, taking the 1-0 lead with a shot from inside the 18-yard box and the hosts doubled their lead just over 10 minutes later.
- Kenan Hot started the late heroics, cutting the deficit in half in the 84th minute, using an assist from Alessandro Arlotti to fire a shot inside of the left post for his second goal in as many games. Leonardo D'Ambrosio leveled the score less than 15 seconds later, with his left-footed strike assisted by Racaj.
NOTES
- The draw between the two teams was the first in the five games played between the two teams. The all-time series now stands at 2-2-1.
- Kenan Hot scored his second goal in as many games, after scoring Duke's lone goal in a 1-1 draw at Furman on Sunday, Aug. 31.
- Leonardo D'Ambrosio now has two goals in his Duke career. The College of Charleston transfer arrived in Durham after scoring 19 goals for the Cougars.Â
- Hot and D'Ambrosio are tied for the team lead for total points, with five each.
- Alessandro Arlotti has tallied an assist in three of Duke's first four matches this season and leads the team with his three assists.
- Axel Gudbjornsson made his season debut, playing a total of 50 minutes.Â
