JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Christian Toro headlined the first day of competition for the Duke men at the NCAA East Regional as the sophomore turned in a strong performance en route to punching his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Representing the Blue Devils in the men's hammer throw, Toro opened the morning with a bang en route to securing his first career berth to the national meet. Toro made his third throw the charm and launched the hammer 66.86m (219-4 feet) – good for No. 5 in the East Regional field.
Joseph Taylor didn't let the inclement weather conditions dampen his regional debut as the rookie continued his stellar freshman season with a commanding performance in the men's 400m. Taylor finished among the top two in his heat, clocking 45.77 seconds to earn to automatic berth and secure his spot in Friday's quarterfinal.
