DURHAM, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the final team and individual rankings for the 2024-25 season Wednesday with Duke women's tennis tabbed No. 5 nationally, while six Blue Devils were listed as well.
As a team, Duke finished the season in the top five for the 17th time in program history and the 14th under the direction of head coach
Jamie Ashworth.
The Blue Devils featured six singles student-athletes ranked nationally –
Emma Jackson (21),
Irina Balus (26),
Eleana Yu (71),
Liv Hovde (80),
Ellie Coleman (85) and
Shavit Kimchi (97). In doubles action, Balus and Coleman finished the year ranked No. 23.
Duke was one of only two teams nationally with six players ranked, while Balus was the third-highest freshman in the final listing.
Jackson, a product of La Grange Park, Ill., concluded her stint with the Blue Devils with career bests in singles (27) and doubles (27) wins. She totaled nine singles victories against ranked opponents and advanced to the round of 32 at the NCAA Singles Championship. Over her career, she finished with records of 89-51 in singles and 75-38 in doubles.
In an impressive rookie season, Balus logged a singles ledger of 17-11 overall and was ranked as high as No. 8 nationally during the year. The Banská Bystrica, Slovakia product posted six wins against ranked opponents and appeared in the NCAA Singles Championship. She was an All-ACC Second Team honoree.
After transferring in this season, Yu made an immediate impact totaling a 19-9 overall singles mark and earned as high as a No. 30 national ranking during the year. A native of Mason, Ohio, Yu posted four wins against ranked opponents and also appeared in the NCAA Singles Championship.
Kimchi, who is from Sdey Hemed, Israel, totaled a 21-11 singles record as a sophomore with two of those victories against ranked opponents. She notched a 12-2 ledger at the No. 5 singles slot and appeared in the NCAA Singles Championship.
A product of Daniel Island, S.C., Hovde played at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions for the Blue Devils in the spring after signing late. She collected six wins with three of those coming against ranked opponents, including one against 15th-ranked Thea Rabman of North Carolina. Hovde was an All-ACC Third Team selection.
Coleman concluded her career on a very high note posting a career-high 26 singles wins and finishing the year ranked No. 85, which was a season-best ledger. A Midland, Mich., native, Coleman posted a 19-2 dual match record, 10-0 ACC mark and went a perfect 11-0 at No. 6 singles. She finished her career with an 83-38 singles and 80-44 doubles mark.
In doubles, Coleman and Balus turned in an outstanding season while earning All-America accolades. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship in the fall and totaled a 21-15 record together. The duo posted six wins against ranked foes.
As a team, Duke registered a 24-4 overall record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.
