Duke Doubles Registers Impressive Wins in Fall Debut

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Duke women's tennis team opened the fall slate this weekend at the Kitty Harrison Invitational at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.

Duke's doubles teams won four of the six matches on the weekend to pace the Blue Devils. In singles play, the squad struggled totaling a 1-12 ledger.

On Friday, the second-ranked Duke duo of Liz Hovde and Irina Balus posted an impressive, 6-4, victory over Virginia's ninth-ranked Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang. Hovde and Balus also collected a 6-2 win over Old Dominion's Kira Matushkina and Victoria Matasova on Sunday.

Shavit Kimchi and Katie Codd also teamed together Sunday to register a 7-5 win over ODU's Ulyana Romanova and Marina Markina. Hovde also teamed with Kimchi to collect a 7-5 win against Georgia's Aysegul Mert and Hayden Mulberry.

In singles play, Codd collected the lone victory on Sunday against Old Dominion as she posted a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win over Lidiia Rasskouskaia.

The Blue Devils took on Virginia Friday, Georgia on Saturday and Old Dominion on Sunday.

Duke will next compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship Sept. 20-28 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary.
