DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's tennis head coach
Jamie Ashworth announced Monday the signing of one of the top junior tennis players in the nation –
Aspen Schuman – to a scholarship agreement and will join the Blue Devils in January of 2026.
"We could not be more excited for Aspen and her family to be joining the Duke tennis family," said Ashworth. "It has truly been a pleasure building a relationship with Aspen and know that she is going to bring a tremendous amount of energy and pride to our program. She plays with a sense of passion and determination that is going to be infectious amongst her teammates, we are looking for her to make an immediate impact on all aspects of our program. Aspen is someone that loves to compete and we cannot wait for her to take the courts as a Blue Devil in January!"
Schuman, a product of Menlo Park, California, has an Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF) career high ranking of No. 31 and a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) career best ranking of No. 931. In the Tennis Recruiting Network rankings, Schuman is listed No. 4 nationally and she has been listed as high as No. 1 in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Girls' 18s national rankings.
A six-time Junior Grand Slam main draw competitor, Schuman has won five ITF junior singles titles and is a two-time ITF W15 Tournament finalist. Schuman won the 2025 J100 Sano Domingo, 2024 J200 Tampico, 2024 J200 Veracruz, 2023 J100 Vancouver and the 2022 J5 McKinney. In 2025, she advanced to the main draw of the U.S. Open Junior Championship, competed in the 2025 Wimbledon Junior Championship and the Australian Open Junior Championship.
She is a two-time PTT $25k Tournament champion, was a 2023 Easter Bowl U-18 finalist and 2018 Little Mo National Champion. Schuman advanced to the round of 16 at the 2024 Australian Open Junior Championship as well as the 2023 U.S. Open Junior Championship.
