LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Six members of the Duke wrestling team competed in the U.S. Open Wrestling Championship this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., coming away with 11 total victories.

Sophomore Raymond Adams led the charge for the Blue Devils, with two wins in the U-20 Freestyle competition and an appearance in the fifth round of the consolation bracket. Freshmen Eli Murray and sophomore Kwasi Bonsu notched two wins in the U-20 Freestyle category as well, while sophomore Luke Williams picked up four wins across U-20 Freestyle and U-20 Greco-Roman competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Williams got off to a hot start in the Greco-Roman competition on Thursday, pinning his first opponent in 36 seconds. The sophomore went on to reach the third round of the consolation bracket, before taking part in the Freestyle competition on Saturday. In Freestyle, he collected a fall win over Colorado's Jonathan Malovich on his way to another third-round appearance in the consolation bracket.
Freshman Riley Rowan started play with an 11-0 tech fall victory over Oklahoma State's Samuel Smith.He then dropped his next two matches as he reached the second round of the consolation bracket.
Adams, one of the captains of Duke's 2024-25 squad, wrestled his way to the third round of the championship bracket and the fifth round of the consolation bracket by defeating Drake Hooiman in a 6-5 decision and taking a 10-0 tech fall win over Tyler Nguyen of The Citadel.
After losing his opening match on Saturday, Murray went on a run in the consolation bracket, taking back-to-back victories via tech-fall and fall. Murray's run ended in a close decision against Cornell's Ryder Yoshitake.
Freshman Ryan Beirne saw action as well, losing two matches including one by decision against Army's Evan Roudebush.
Bonsu rounded out the Blue Devils in the 92-kilogram weight class. The sophomore dropped his first match, before pinning his second opponent in just over two minutes. After another victory over Jason Singer, Bonsu fell to SIUE's Nick Nosler in the fourth round of the consolation bracket.
