DURHAM, N.C. – No. 9 Florida State (29-5, 6-0 ACC) defeated No. 19 Duke (21-12, 4-5 ACC), 9-2, in the conference series finale Sunday afternoon at Duke Softball Stadium.

Dani Drogemuller and freshman
Hailey Shuler combined to face the Seminoles. Curd earned the start and tossed the first 2.0 innings. Drogemuller worked 3.0 innings of relief while collecting a game-high four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida State's Jaysoni Beachum sent out a solo home run in the top of the first to open the scoring.
- The Seminoles extended their lead in the top of the third, adding three runs off four hits and a Blue Devil error to create a 4-0 gap.
- In the bottom of the fourth, Florida State placed runners on the corners using a pair of base hits and a groundout before Isa Torres sent a single to the center field wall to drive in another two runs and push the Seminoles ahead 6-0.
- Burgess slipped a base hit through the right side in the bottom of the fourth to plate Duke's first run. Her knock scored junior Aleyah Terrell, who was pinch running for Vega. Gold came home in the following at bat on a groundout from junior KK Mathis to make it a 6-2 game.
- Florida State kept the momentum going on offense, tacking on three additional runs over the following two frames to round out its nine runs.
- The Blue Devils attempted to close the gap in the bottom of the seventh, moving two runners into scoring position on back-to-back one-out singles and a wild pitch but the Seminoles secured the final two outs to seal the 9-2 victory.
NOTES
- Shuler made her third appearance of the weekend and seventh on the year after entering the game in the top of the third.
- Curd was tagged with the loss and moves her season ledger to 7-6 after 22 appearances.
- Burgess tallied her eighth multi-hit performance of the year.
- Burgess and Mathis recorded their 15th and 20th RBI of the season, respectively.
- Florida State shifts the all-time series to a 14-5 advantage.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils hit the road on Wednesday, traveling to Greenville, N.C., for a single non-conference matchup with East Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
