GREENVILLE, N.C. – No. 21 Duke softball collected an 11-0 run-rule victory over East Carolina in five innings at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium Wednesday night.
With the win, the Blue Devils improved to 22-12 on the year while the Pirates drop to 18-14.

Aminah Vega led the Blue Devils at the plate, batting a perfect 4-for-4 on the night with three runs scored. The trio of juniors

Aleyah Terrell and sophomore
Amiah Burgess each finished 2-for-3 during the contest and combined to drive in three of Duke's 11 runs.
Juniors
Cassidy Curd and
Sophie Garner-MacKinnon worked the combined shut out against the Pirates. Curd earned the start and picked up the win after tossing 3.0 innings, surrendering just three hits, all singles, with a game-high five strikeouts. Garner-MacKinnon allowed only a single during her 2.0 innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Devils came out swinging in the opening frame, using base hits from Mathis and graduate student Thessa Malau'ulu and a groundout from redshirt junior Jada Baker to jump ahead 4-0.
- Duke plated another run in the top of the second after stringing together a single, double and a dropped fly to stretch a 5-0 advantage.
- The Blue Devils kept the pace on offense, posting back-to-back two-run frames in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by Baker's two-run blast to left-center field to pull away 9-0.
- Senior Ana Gold and Mathis each drove in a run in the top of the fifth with a base hit to the center field wall and a sacrifice fly to right to round out Duke's 11 runs on the night.
NOTES
- Mathis tallied her 100th career RBI in the top of the first.
- Baker recorded her third home run of the season and eighth of her career.
- Curd improves to 8-6 on the year after 23 appearances in the circle.
- Curd and Garner-MacKinnon tossed their fourth combined shut out of the season.
- Duke shifts the all-time series to 7-1, including a 4-1 record when playing in Greenville.
- The Blue Devils are now 7-3 in run-rule games this season.
