The Opening Faceoff
- Duke moved to 4-1 following a 15-14 setback to No. 8 Princeton Friday night. Benn Johnston had a career night with five goals and six points while Eric Malever and Andrew McAdorey both had two goals and two assists. Patrick Jameison made 11 saves, but a fast start in the fourth quarter for the Tigers proved to be the difference.
- Duke is in the middle of a three-game set against top-20 opponents. The Blue Devils will play 10 of the current USILA top 20.
- Penn comes to Durham following a 16-8 loss at North Carolina. Cam Rubin headlines the offense with eight goals and three assists for 11 points. Chris Patterson has seven goals while Casey Mulligan is the facilitator with six assists. The Quakers are scoring just 9.50 goals per game and giving up 8.50 per outing. They are forcing 17.5 turnovers per game, but winning just 33 percent of their faceoffs. In goal, All-American Emmet Carroll sports an 8.34 goals against average and a .577 save percentage.
- Each of the past four meetings between Duke and Penn have been decided by three or fewer goals, including an overtime win for the Quakers in 2022. Since 2018, the average marging of victory has been 3.17 goals, which includes a 10-goal win by Duke in 2019.

Series History
- Duke and Penn meet for the 15th time overall and for the sixth straight season (Penn did not compete in 2021). The Quakers lead the series 8-6 and have won three of the past four outings, including a 14-12 victory in Durham last year. Duke's last win over Penn was a 14-12 victory in Philadelphia in 2023 – the Blue Devils' first true road victory over the Quakers.

Last Time We Met
- Aidan Danenza had four goals as Duke's late comeback effort came up short against Penn in a 14-12 setback last season. Emmett Carroll was outstanding for Penn with 14 saves.
- Duke led 3-1 late in the first quarter, but a 6-2 run by Penn put the Quakers in front 7-5 at the half. The Quakers never relinquished the lead as Duke pulled within one twice, including 13-12 with 1:22 left to play. Patrick Jameison finished with 12 saves.
Back to Back Losses
- Since 2007, the Blue Devils have lost consecutive games just 10 times, including twice in 2011. Duke's longest losing streak under Danowski is three games in 2015. The Blue Devils have not lost back-to-back games since losses to Syracuse and North Carolina in 2019.
It's Christmas Time in Durham
- Longstick midfielder Mac Christmas is having a super sophomore season. After playing in only eight games his freshman season, the 6-4 LSM is a key contributor on Duke's defensive unit that ranks second nationally in caused turnovers.
- Christmas already has five goals and an assist this season. His five markers are the most by a pole since CJ Costabile had seven goals in 2012.
- Christmas joined Costabile as the first pole to record two goals in a game when he threw in two against Saint Joseph's. The Bethesda, Maryland native also has 11 ground balls and two caused turnovers this season.
Duke's Depth at the Dot
- Duke has a wealth of depth at the faceoff dot with three options in junior Luke Engelke, sophomore Cal Girard and freshman Ben McCarthy. All three have taken at least 20 faceoffs this season. Engelke, following his 8-of-10 perfromance against Princeton has the edge in percentage (31-50, .620) while (McCarthy has taken the most draws (35-63, .556).
- This season marks the first time Duke has had a new stick at the faceoff dot for the first time since 2020. Jake Naso graduated after taking 1,688 career faceoffs. Girard and Engelke returned after having taken a combined 164 in their careers. The duo has already taken 55 this season. Freshman Ben McCarthy, a high school All-American, joins the fray.
