The Opening Faceoff
- Duke is 2-0 after a 26-7 win over Bellarmine and a 14-9 dispatching of Jacksonville. Eric Malever has 11 points, while Luke Grayum has nine. Five different players have at least three goals after two games. Defensively, Duke is allowing eight goals per game and has forced 41 turnovers. The extra-man unit is 6-of-9 (.667) with Malever having two man-up tallies.
- Saint Joseph's comes to Durham after a tough loss to Sacred Heart. The Hawks, trailing 9-5 late in the third quarter, mounted a comeback that fell short by one, 12-11. Jesse Jason led SJU with three goals and four points overall. Mark Watters also had a hat trick out of the midfield. Tewaaraton Award Watch List member, Levi Verch led the defensive charge with four caused turnovers. In goal, Tommy Gross had seven saves. Saint Joe's was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10.
- The Saint Joe's head coach, Taylor Wray, is familiar with Koskinen Stadium as a former Blue Devil. The 2003 Duke graduate helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2001 and 2002 ACC titles and captained the 2003 squad with his brother, Devan Wray.
