The Opening Hit

- Saint Joseph's is off to a red-hot start with a 5-1 record that includes a pair of top-20 wins. The Hawks have outscored their opponents 24-11 and are led on offense by Lily Santi's five goals and six assists. Manu Ghigliotti has three goals and five assists while Marith Bijkerk anchors the defense in goal with a 1.59 goals against average and a .563 save percentage. She is 4-0 in goal and Shannon McNally is 1-1. The Hawks play Davidson Friday, Sept. 20 before coming to Durham.

Former Umass Standouts Meet
- When Duke and Saint Joseph's square off Sunday it will be a matchup of a pair of UMass Field Hockey standouts. Separated by 24 years, Duke head coach Pam Bustin '90 and SJU leader Hannah Prince '14 share the same alma mater and both went on to have careers on the U.S. National Team. Bustin competed in the 1996 Olympics and Prince helped the U.S. win gold at the 2017 Pan American Cup and played in the 2018 Indoor World Cup in Germany.
- Bustin, a 2012 UMass Hall of Fame inductee, coached against Prince as a player as the Blue Devils defeated Prince and the Minutemen, 4-1 in the 2013 NCAA quarterfinals.
A Glance at the Blue Devils

- Junior Alaina McVeigh is back for her second full season on the turf for the Blue Devils. After missing her freshman season to injury, McVeigh had a breakout season in 2023 to earn the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Year award and First Team All-America honors.
- McVeigh has picked up right where she left off with five goals in six outings. She has a pair of two-goal games, her fourth and fifth multiple-goal games of her career. She ranks fourth in the ACC at 0.83 goals per game and fifth with 1.83 points per game.
Series Histories
- Duke and Saint Joseph's meet for the fifth time overall and the second time in the past three seasons. The Blue Devils are 4-0 against the Hawks, including an overtime win in 2022.
- Three of the four matchups between the Blue Devils and Hawks have been decided by a single goal and three of the four have had at least seven combined goals in them. Duke's 6-3 victory in 2018 is the most lopsided, while the 1-0 win in 2022 was the first shutout of the series.
