The Opening Hit
- Fourth-ranked Duke continues its four-game road swing at No. 18 Old Dominion and at No. 12 Liberty. The Blue Devils face the Monarchs, Sept. 13 at 5 p.m., and the Flames two days later, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.. The games, both broadcast on ESPN+, will be the third and fourth this season against top-20 teams.
- Duke moved up one spot to fourth in the first NFHCA poll of the 2024 season, following its 1-0 win over then-No. 4 Maryland. The Blue Devils' lone loss came against top-ranked Northwestern last weekend. Alaina McVeigh is the top scorer with three goals and seven points overall. Defensively, Duke has allowed just two goals all season and hasn't given up a goal in 109:50. Â
- Old Dominion is one of 10 remaining unbeaten teams, sporting a 4-0 record. The Monarchs' 0.25 goals against average is second nationally. Thanks to nine goals against Queens, ODU also ranks second with 4.75 goals scored per game average. Liberty is 2-1 with the loss coming to No. 3 Virginia. The Flames own wins against Indiana (2-1 2OT) and Kent State (4-1).

A Glance at the Blue Devils
- The Blue Devils are 3-1 and ranked fourth following the 1-0 win against then No. 4 Maryland. Duke has allowed just three goals, with two coming against No. 1 Northwestern. Alaina McVeigh is the top threat offensively with three markers this season. Six different Blue Devils have scored overall.
- Defensively, Duke is allowing just 5.75 shots per game and has been outstanding in the third quarter in giving up just three shots overall. The Blue Devils own a commanding 22-3 edge in shots and an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners in the third quarter.

Palde Is Clutch and Saving The Best For Last?
- Senior Josephine Palde registered the lone goal in the win over No. 4 Maryland, her second tally of the 2024 season. With two goals already this year, Palde has matched her total in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The native of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania finished last season with two goals and two assists after having two goals and six assists as a sophomore.
- With seven goals in her career, five of them are game winners. Of the five winning goals, four came in 1-0 victories, while the fifth was the opening score in a 2-0 blanking of Wake Forest.

- Duke and Old Dominion meet for the 47th time overall. The two squads first met in 1980 and have been scheduled to play every year except the unique 2020-21 season. The contest in 2022 was canceled due to weather. The Monarchs lead the series 24-22, but Duke has won the past nine games with five of the victories coming by at least two goals.
- Sunday features the 10th meeting between Duke and Liberty. The Blue Devils are 7-2 overall against the Flames, including last year's 2-1 overtime win. Seven of the nine games have been decided by a single goal.

- Duke and Liberty have squared off in nine of the past 10 years. Five of the past six outings have been decided in overtime with Duke going 4-1 in those contests. The Blue Devils defeated the Flames 2-1 in overtime last season and the last victory in Lynchburg in 2019 was a 3-2 overtime triumph for Duke. Seven of the ten matchups have been decided by a single goal.
- The two lopsided games came in 2021 - a 5-2 win for Liberty - and in 2016 - a 4-0 win for Duke.
