DURHAM - The United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) is pleased to announce the 2024 slate of NCAA Fencing Academic awards. Thirty-two Blue Devils were named to the All-Academic Team, 30 of those earned Scholar of Distinction recognition.
Duke's honorees were Xander Wilcox, Allen Marakov, Aretha Gao, Cam Evans, Catherine Flanagan, Charlotte Koenig, Chloe Beittel, Christina Ferrari, David Tierney, Dayaal Singh, Elisha Tan, Hava Stone, Justin Morrill, Katie Lin, Kavya Menke, Kozmo Rhyu, Kunling Tong, Lulu Tang, Natalie Olsen, Noah Eager, Rachel Koo, Rachel Kowalsky, Samir Travers, Sarah Lurye, Skylar Knight, Sophia Shen, Stephen Kim, Tuna Korkmaz, Vanessa Lin, Victoria Gorman, Xavier Ghazaleh and Zizi Newhard.
The USFCA recognizes the individual student-athletes and teams based on their combined Fall and Spring semester GPAs (or Fall and Winter quarter GPAs).
The USFCA All-Academic Team includes 536 student-athletes with 326 receiving recognition as Scholars of Distinction. All-Academic Team honors are presented to those student-athletes at member institutions who had an in-season GPA of 3.3 or higher. Scholar of Distinction honors are presented to those student-athletes at member institutions who had an in-season GPA of 3.7 or higher.
Twenty women's teams and 14 men's teams received All-Academic recognition for their combined in-season team GPA. Duke University received the Women's Scholar Team of the Year Award with a USFCA-best team GPA of 3.83, just ahead of the University of Pennsylvania with a 3.815 GPA and Brown University with a 3.8 GPA. Brandeis University received the Men's Scholar Team of the Year Award with a USFCA-best team GPA of 3.7, just ahead of Vassar College with a 3.67 GPA and Duke University with a 3.61 GPA.
