PHILADELPHIA – Duke fencing put together a strong performance at the Philadelphia Invitational, closing the two-day meet with a combined record of 15-2. The No. 5 women ended the weekend with an 8-1 mark while the eighth-ranked men went 7-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The fifth-ranked Blue Devil women opened the Philadelphia Invitational going a perfect 6-0 Saturday with convincing wins over UCSD (18-9), NYU (19-8), Haverford (25-2), No. 10 Penn State (21-6), NJIT (25-2) and Lafayette (27-0).
- Duke's No. 8 men's squad also went undefeated and posted a trio of ranked wins on the opening day of competition, taking down No. 15 UCSD (14-13), No. 13 NYU (18-9), Haverford (21-6), No. 9 Penn State (18-9) and Lafayette (22-5).
- On Sunday, the Duke women defeated Wagner (23-4) and FDU (25-2) but dropped a tight contest to No. 9 Yale, 12-15. The men's squad triumphed over Wagner (22-5) and NJIT (17-10) while also falling in its bout against No. 10 Yale (10-17).
- Ten Duke women posted double-digit wins during the weekend, paced by Charlotte Koenig (foil) with 19. Kalina Atanasova (sabre) and Daniella Barg (épée) were right behind with 16 wins apiece, with épées Meera Desai and Yeva Mazur rounding out the top five with 15 and 14 wins, respectively.
- On the men's side, Abdelrahman Tolba (foil) led the charge as he finished the meet with a perfect 17-0 mark. Fellow foils Joseph Glasson and Aidan Lee notched 16 and 13 wins, respectively, while sabres Justin Glozman and Zachary Shoman each tallied 11.
