DURHAM – Duke track and field senior
Brianna Smith was named the ACC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year in recognition of her excellence in the classroom, on the track and in the field, the league announced Friday morning. She shares the honor with NC State's Grace Harmon.
Smith, who was announced as an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in May, is the first ACC Women's Outdoor Scholar Athlete of the Year for Duke since
Juliet Bottorff took home the award in 2014 and just the second Blue Devil woman all-time to earn the distinction.
A multi-events athlete from Elkins Park, Pa., Smith most recently competed at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and closed out her Duke career with USTFCCCA Outdoor All-America Honorable Mention honors in the women's heptathlon. Prior to that, she earned the silver medal and All-ACC First Team accolades in the heptathlon at the 2024 ACC Outdoor Championships while helping the Duke women garner its second straight ACC Outdoor Championship and third in the last four years.
In four seasons as a member of the Duke track and field program, she has been a part of four ACC Track & Field championship teams for the Blue Devil women – three outdoor (2021, '23, '24) and one indoor (2022). A 2022 ACC Indoor Champion in the women's high jump, Smith has garnered All-ACC honors six times and tallied seven All-Academic Team selections during her Duke tenure.
Additionally, Smith earned 2024 USTFCCCA Indoor All-America honors in the pentathlon and owns the Duke record in the women's indoor high jump in addition to two other top-five program marks.
Overall, the Blue Devils landed 55 individuals on the ACC All-Academic Teams – 27 men and 28 women. Representing Duke on the men's side were
