LUBBOCK, Texas – The National Pitcher of the Year Award committee announced Friday the 14 hurlers who make up the 2024 semifinalist list, which includes not only the top starters but also some of the best relievers in the country. Duke's
Charlie Beilenson was one of three ACC players to be tabbed with the honor.
"This has been an extremely competitive process of picking the best of the best this season," said Chris Snead, co-chair of the Pitcher of the Year Award. "This list of semifinalist leaves out some exceptionally talented and successful pitcher, but it speaks to the level of pitchers who are competing to become the National Pitcher of the Year."
Beilenson, the 6-foot right-handed pitcher from Los Angeles, Calif., was named to the midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List and Dick Howser Trophy Semifinalist List, following his impressive body of work as the Blue Devils closer. The righty has posted a 6-3 record on the mound in his 52.2 innings of work, holding opponents to a .178 batting average against. He is second on the team with 78 strikeouts and has recorded 11 saves, one off tying the school record for a single season, during the 2024 campaign. Beilenson enjoyed a stellar April, posting a 0.00 ERA and a perfect 5-0 record in 11 appearances.
