The Opening Faceoff
- Duke earned the No. 2 overall seed in the 2024 Tournament following a runner-up finish in the ACC Championship title game. The Blue Devils are 12-5 overall with three of the losses coming to No. 1 Notre Dame (2) and No. 3 Syracuse.
- Duke and Utah are meeting for the second time in the programs' histories. The Blue Devils defeated the Utes 17-11 in Durham in Utah's inaugural season.
- The Utes are in their sixth season of lacrosse and appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year after beating Jacksonville, 16-13, in the Atlantic Sun Championship to earn the automatic berth. Ryan Stines leads the nation's third-ranked offense with 64 points (47g, 17a) while Tyler Bradbury has 57 points. Defensively, the Utes allow 10.38 goals per game with Niko DiPonio as the anchor at 2.06 caused turnovers per game.
- Duke ranks fifth nationally in scoring offense and 19th in scoring defense. Dyson Williams is the top goal scorer with 50 markers, while Brennan O'Neill has 49 goals and a team-best 74 points. Kenny Brower anchors the defense with 18 caused turnovers.
- The winner Saturday advances to the quarterfinal in Hempstead, N.Y., to take on the winner between Maryland and Princeton.

Series History
- Duke and Utah are meeting for the second time. The two squads played at Koskinen Stadium in the Utes' inaugural season. The Blue Devils prevailed 17-11 with Joe Robertson and Brad Smith both scoring five points apiece. Duke won all but three faceoffs in that game.
Home Sweet Home
- Duke is 7-2 at home this season following the win against Virginia. Under head coach John Danowski, Duke is 148-27 in games in Durham. Duke has gone unbeaten at home four times since 2007.
Consecutive Setbacks
- Duke teams under John Danowski have fared well after losses and that trend continued in the ACC Championship semifinal win over Syracuse. Since 2007, the Blue Devils have lost consecutive games just 10 times, including twice in 2011. Duke's longest losing streak under Danowski is three games in 2015. The Blue Devils have not lost back-to-back games since losses to Syracuse and North Carolina in 2019.

- Saturday's matchup features two teams that can score a lot of goals. Utah averages over 15 goals per game and allows 10.38 per game, while Duke scores nearly 15 goals per game.
