DURHAM – Following back-to-back ACC series sweeps, Duke softball earned the program's first No. 1 ranking on Monday when SoftballAmerica unveiled its Top 25 poll for week nine.
The Blue Devils broke into the top-5 in all four major polls last week after a three-game sweep over then-No. 15 Virginia Tech. Duke then defeated Charlotte, 6-1, in a midweek contest before sweeping North Carolina in a three-game set to extend its winning streak to eight games.
The ranking marks the first time this season that a team other than Oklahoma has claimed the top spot.
Duke is back in action Tuesday when it travels to Greenville, N.C., for a non-conference matchup with East Carolina. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
