DURHAM – Five Duke baseball student-athletes were selected to
Perfect Game's Midseason All-America teams this week. Graduate
Ben Miller and junior
Jonathan Santucci rounded out the second team, while
Charlie Beilenson earned a spot on the third team.
Freshman
Kyle Johnson and
AJ Gracia both were tabbed to the Freshman First Team Hitters, as Johnson is a two-way player for the Blue Devils. Miller and Santucci were also named to the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List on Thursday.
Miller, a 6-foot-1 third baseman, has started all 29 games for the Blue Devils this season, leading the team in batting average (.458), doubles (14), OPS (1.334), hits (54), slugging percentage (.805) and on base percentage (.529). The Durham, N.C., native has also added 11 walks and seven hit by pitches, beginning the season with a 13-game hitting streak. He enters the fifth weekend of ACC play with a 10-game hitting streak and tallied his 18th multi-hit contest of the season at Liberty on Tuesday.
Santucci, a 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher, has started seven games for the Blue Devils as the Friday night ace. He has posted a 5-0 record on the mound in 35 innings of work, allowing 11 earned runs to score and punched out 57 batters. The Leominster, Mass., native has held opponents to a .163 average at the plate and posted a new career high in both innings pitched (six) and strikeouts (14) against Akron in his third start of the year. Bryce Jarvis threw the Blue Devils first perfect game.
Beilenson, a 6-foot right-handed pitcher, has appeared in 12 games for the Blue Devils this season, posting a 3.42 ERA in 23.2 innings of work. He has issued eight walks and struck out 34 batters, in route to tallying eight saves to being the 2024 campaign. A year removed from breaking the school record for appearances in a single season (39), the Los Angeles, Calif., native has allowed nine earned runs to score and opponents are batting .226 off the righty.
Gracia, a 6-foot-3 outfielder, has started all 29 games in his rookie campaign, posting a .350 average at the plate and a 1.122 OPS this season. Gracia has scored 26 runs, collected 36 hits, six doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI. In addition to those numbers, he leads the team in walks with 23, has been hit by four pitches and stole five bases for the Blue Devils. Andrew Fischer's freshman home run record set in 2023 and is seven RBI away from breaking
Joey Loperfido's freshman RBI record set in 2018.
Johnson, a 6-foot-1 two-way player, has appeared in 14 games at the plate and seven on the mound with three starts. At the dish, Johnson has produced a .333 average scoring four runs and gathering eight hits, three doubles and one triple this season. On the mound, Johnson posts a 1.00 ERA in 18 innings of work with a perfect 3-0 record. The Leesburg, Va., native has surrendered 12 hits, two earned runs and punched out 16 batters. Opponents are batting .190 off the freshman this season.
