CLEMSON, S.C. – Third-ranked Duke secured its 10th consecutive ACC series victory on Saturday afternoon when it defeated No. 19 Clemson, 4-3, at McWhorter Stadium.
The Blue Devils (36-4, 15-2 ACC), who have not dropped a conference series since March 24-26, 2023, earned their second straight series win over the Tigers (28-3, 11-6 ACC).
Senior
Jala Wright earned the start and the win inside the circle, allowing three runs across five hits in 5.0 innings of work. The Charlotte, N.C., native fanned a game-high seven during the contest and improved her season ledger to 13-1. Classmate
Lillie Walker registered her third save of the season after entering in the sixth inning and retiring all six batters she faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Claire Davidson put the Blue Devils on the board in the top of the third with a three-run home run over the center field wall. Her long ball also scored sophomore D'Auna Jennings and senior Kelly Torres after the duo reached on back-to-back singles.
- Clemson immediately answered in the bottom half of the frame with three runs off two hits and a pair of wild pitches to even the score at 3-3.
- Junior Ana Gold then broke the deadlock when she scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning following a sacrifice bunt from senior Francesca Frelick. Gold led off the frame with a single before advancing to third on Frelick's bunt and then home after a Tigers' throwing error.
- Clemson started the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to right field, but Walker came in to retire the next three batters to hold off the Tigers' rally.
NOTES
- Davidson's three-run shot in the top of the third pushed her past the 100-career RBI milestone. She now has 102 in her career.
- The Lakewood Ranch, Fla., native has notched a home run in back-to-back games and has 15 long balls on the year to lead the Blue Devils.
- With her seven strikeouts in the game, Wright ties teammate Cassidy Curd with a team-high 108.
- Sophomore Aminah Vega continues to lead the team in doubles after recording her 15th two-bagger of the season.
- Frelick has tallied a team-high six sacrifice hits on the year.
