DURHAM – Duke baseball looks into the first few weeks of Major League Baseball and its affiliate teams, as we check in on our Pro Blue Devils across the country.
Marcus Stroman – New York Yankees (MLB)
Stroman signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees on January 17, 2024, marking the fourth team the right-hander has pitched for in his career. The Medford, N.Y., native has made three starts this season, posting a 2.12 ERA and a 1-1 record on the mound. He has worked 17 innings and struck out 17 for the Yankees.
Bryce Jarvis – Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB)
Jarivs earned a spot on the Diamondbacks Opening Day roster after appearing on the Wild Card roster in 2023, during the Diamondbacks run to the World Series. The Lexington, Ky., native has appeared in four games for the snakes, posting a 4.50 ERA in eight innings pitched. He has struck out eight batters and posts a 2-1 career record in the big leagues.
Graham Pauley – El Paso Chihuahuas (AAA | San Diego Padres)
Pauley made his Major League Debut with the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea, as part of the MLB's Opening Day series against the Dodgers. The Alpharetta, Ga., native tallied 15 at bats in the big leagues, scoring two runs, collecting two hits and hitting a three-run home run, his first MLB hit. Pauley was optioned back to Triple-A El Paso on April 9, 2024. Since that point, he has hit two home runs and posted a batting average of .429.
Jimmy Herron – Albuquerque Isotopes (AAA | Colorado Rockies)
Herron began the 2024 season with the Colorado Rockies Triple-A team in Albuquerque. He has scored three runs, collected five hits and one home run, while posting a .333 average at the plate and a OPS of 1.177.
Matt Mervis – Iowa Cubs (AAA | Chicago Cubs)
A year removed from making his MLB debut, Mervis begins the 2024 season in Iowa with the Iowa Cubs. Through 40 at bats, Mervis has tallied 13 hits, one home run, three runs scored and five RBI. He boasts a .325 average at the plate and an on base percentage of .420.
Joey Loperfido – Sugar Land Space Cowboys (AAA | Houston Astros)
Loperfido has torn up Triple-A in the past few seasons and leads the league in home runs through his first 45 at bats with six. He has scored 14 runs, collected 13 hits and tallied 15 RBI. The Philadelphia, Pa., native holds a 1.069 OPS and continues to be on the doorstep of the MLB.
Griffin Conine – Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (AAA | Miami Marlins)
After jumping to Triple-A to begin the season in 2024, Conine returned to Durham to play at the DBAP for Opening Week. Through 38 at bats, Conine has scored four runs, collected eight hits and drove in five RBI. He helped the Jumbo Shrimp close out an Opening Day win with a double play at the plate to halt the tying run from scoring in Durham.
Ethan Murray – Biloxi Shuckers (AA | Milwaukee Brewers)
Murray begins the 2024 campaign with the Biloxi Shuckers, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Murray has registered 19 at bats, scoring three runs and collecting three hits.
Graeme Stinson – Montgomery Biscuits (AA | Tampa Bay Rays)
Graeme Stinson has yet to see action with the Montgomery Biscuits this season.
Adam Laskey – Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA | Miami Marlins)
Adam Laskey begins the 2024 season with the Miami Marlins Double-A affiliate in Pensacola and has worked two innings in his first game. He struck out one batter and earned the hold.
Jack Carey – Greensboro Grasshoppers (High A | Pittsburgh Pirates)
Carey has appeared in one game so far for the Grasshoppers in High A for the Pirates. He worked 1.2 innings and punched out three batters.
Marcus Johnson – Charleston RiverDogs (A | Tampa Bay Rays)
Marcus Johnson begins the 2024 seaosn on the 60-Day Injured List.
Billy Seidl – Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (A | Chicago White Sox)
Billy Seidl has appeared in two games for the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers this season working two innings on the mound.
Jimmy Loper – St. Lucie Mets (A | New York Mets)
Loper begins the 2024 season with the St. Lucie Mets in Single-A, appearing in one game this season with 1.2 innings on the mound adding three strikeouts.
Henry Williams – Quad Cities River Bandits (High A | Kansas City River Bandits)
Henry Williams started the 2024 season with the Quad Cities River Bandits. He has started one game, worked five innings and striking out three. He did not factor into the decision.
Alex Mooney – Lake County Captains (A | Cleveland Guardians)
Mooney begins his professional career with the Lake County Captains and has registered nine at bats. He has scored two runs, collected two hits and drove in two RBI. The former seventh round draft pick, collected his first professional home run earlier this week.
Jay Beshears – Lake Elsinore Storm (A | San Diego Padres)
A year after being drafted in the sixth round in the MLB Draft, Beshears begins his professional career with the Lake Elsinore Storm. He has registered 20 at bats, scoring nine runs, collecting nine hits and one home run. He adds one stolen base and posts a batting average of .450 with an OPS of 1.395.
Adam Boucher – Charleston RiverDogs (A | Tampa Bay Rays)
Boucher posts a perfect 2-0 record in professional ball, appearing in two games for the Charleston RiverDogs. He has worked 4.1 innings and struck out six batters.
Luke Fox – ACL Dodgers (Rookie Ball | Los Angeles Dodgers)
Luke Fox was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2024 MLB Draft. He has yet to begin rookie ball.
Chris Davis – Evanston Otters (Independent Ball)
Chris Davis is playing for the Evanston Otters in independent ball. The Otters season begins on April 30th at 10:45 a.m.
