DURHAM – Third-ranked Duke softball fell to Campbell, 3-2, in a non-conference contest at Duke Softball Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Camels (22-17-1, 11-4 CAA) handed the Blue Devils (34-4, 13-2 ACC) their fourth loss of the season and halted their 20-game winning streak at home.
Senior pitcher
Jala Wright was pinned with her first loss of the season and moves her season ledger to 12-1. The Charlotte, N.C., native surrendered three unearned runs off three hits while recording eight strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Campbell was quick to jump ahead in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs off two hits and a Blue Devil error.
- Senior Kelly Torres broke up the Camels' no-hit bid in the bottom of the fourth with a single to left field and moved up on a passed ball, but was left stranded as Campbell grabbed the third out.
- Freshman Amiah Burgess sparked a two-out rally in the sixth, sending a two-RBI double deep into left field to bring in junior Ana Gold and Torres to cut the Camels' gap to 3-2.
- Down to the final out, sophomore D'Auna Jennings kept the offense alive with an infield single to the shortstop, but the effort wasn't enough to make up the difference.
NOTES
- Wright made her 60th career start in the circle.
- Burgess tallied the fifth multi-RBI game of the season.
- Davidson has successfully reached base in 28 straight games after drawing two walks during the contest.
