The Opening Faceoff
- Duke opens ACC play Wednesday at No. 6 Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m., on ACCNX.
- The Blue Devils are 9-14 against the Orange and have won the past two meetings. Duke won in the dome for the first time last year on a Charles Balsamo goal in overtime. Five of the past seven contests have been decided by a single goal.
- Syracuse enters the midweek contest ranked sixth nationally with a 7-2 overall record with the setbacks in overtime to No. 1 Army and No. 7 Maryland. The Orange are coming off a 14-6 neutral site win over Delaware Saturday. Syracuse averages 16 goals per game and features Joey Spallina at attack, averaging 6.33 points per game. The Orange also have excelled at the faceoff dot winning 64 percent of the restarts with Mason Kohn as the leader at 63.8 percent.
- The Duke defense was buzzing all over the field last weekend as the Blue Devils rolled to a 12-3 win at No. 16 Richmond. The Blue Devils held the Spiders without a goal in two quarters and used a 6-0 third quarter to earn their third road win of the year.
- Duke continues its tough stretch, traveling to Baltimore to take on No. 9 Denver (March 24). Duke caps the month against Boston U. (March 27).
