DURHAM – Six former Duke Blue Devils were selected to the MLB's 2024 Spring Breakout. The MLB Spring Breakout is a four-day event showcasing baseball's future: the currents stars of Minor League Baseball.
Former Blue Devils Participating
Marcus Johnson – Tampa Bay Rays
Henry Williams – Kansas City Royals
Alex Mooney – Cleveland Guardians
Graham Pauley – San Diego Padres
Griffin Conine – Miami Marlins
Joey Loperfido – Houston Astros
The inaugural edition will be held from March 14-17, 2024, at Grapefruit and Cactus league stadium during Spring Training. A series of 16 exhibition games will be played between teams comprised of each MLB organization's top prospects, creating a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates the sport's budding talent.
Each roster was constructed using MLB Pipeline's Top 30 Prospects list as its foundation. Players with rookie eligibility entering the 2024 season – most of whom came directly from those Top 30s – were eligible for their club's Spring Breakout roster. Major League rookie eligibility is defined as any player or has not yet exceeded 130 at-bats, 50 innings pitched or 45 total regular-season days on an active roster at the game's top level.
All Breakout games will be held between March 14-17 across the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues, and all16 will be broadcast through MLB.com, MLB Network or regional sports networks. The full schedule can be found by clicking
