Duke Concludes ACC Championship Sunday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Duke fencing team closed out the 2024 ACC Championship Sunday with the team event. The top-seeded women placed second while the fourth-seeded men finished third at the Castellan Family Fencing Center.

How it Happened

North Carolina won its first ACC Men's Fencing Championship since 1980, while Notre Dame prevailed in a fence-off to claim the women's team title.
North Carolina won its ACC-record ninth men's title and first in 44 years, while the Fighting Irish women, following a fence-off with Duke, captured their third straight championship and eighth in the last 10 seasons.
Notre Dame and Duke each went 2-1 in the team competition, setting up the first two-team fence-off for the team championship.
Duke appointed Victoria Gorman (saber), Chloe Beittel (epee) and Rachel Koo (foil) to face off in its respective bouts.
Gorman defeated Chelsea Delsoin (5-4) before Beittel dropped a 5-1 decision to Amanda Pirkowski. Tied up at 1-1, the 2024 ACC Champion in foil, Josephina Conway tallied a 5-3 victory to secure the team championship.
The men fell to Notre Dame (17-10) and to North Carolina (19-8) and defeated Boston College (17-10).
The men's contingent was led by Ryan Pelosky with six victories.
The women's team collected wins over Notre Dame (18-9) and North Carolina (17-10) and fell to Boston College (14-13) by one bout.
The women's squad was led by Koo with eight victories.
