DURHAM, N.C. – Duke rowing head coach
Adrian Spracklen has announced the team's fall schedule for the 2024-25 season. The Blue Devils are set to compete in three regattas across three states in October and November.
The fall season begins Sunday, Oct. 6 in High Point, N.C., as Duke competes in the High Point Rowing Festival on Oak Hollow Lake. The Blue Devils will race against crews from the Ukrainian national team, University of Oxford, Old Dominion and High Point as they look to capture the 2024 Dr. Lenny Peters Cup.
The team then travels to Princeton, N.J., on Sunday, Nov. 3 to take part in the Princeton Chase. The Blue Devils will make their ninth appearance at the Princeton Chase since 2011. Duke's last appearance at the regatta was during the 2022 season and resulted in a pair of top-25 finishes in the Women's Open 8+.
The Blue Devils wrap up the fall slate in Charlottesville, Va., at the Rivanna Romp Head Race Sunday, Nov. 10. Duke is set to make its 12th appearance at the annual event since 2006. Last season, the Blue Devils raced 12 boats along the 4,000-meter course, placing six in the top-10, including the Novice 8+ which claimed a first-place finish for the second straight year.
The spring schedule for Duke will be announced at a later date.
Spracklen enters his first season with the Blue Devils after being named the program's third head coach on July 12. He comes to Durham after a 32-year stint as the director of rowing at Mercyhurst University. Under Spracklen's guidance, the Lakers women's rowing team made 18 appearances at the NCAA Division II National Championships, including three national titles and six runner-up finishes. After taking over the men's program in 1998, the Lakers men's team has become equally successful, capturing eight Dad Vail trophies during the last 10 years.
