DURHAM – A pair of Duke women's soccer standouts – Caitlin Cosme and Mackenzie Pluck – received National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) preseason camp invitations and joined their squads this week as camp opened around the league.
Cosme, a 2021 Duke graduate, was a non-roster invite for the expansion team Bay FC on the West Coast. She joins former Blue Devil All-American Tess Boade on the squad for training camp in Santa Barbara, Calif.
The No. 10 overall selection in the 2022 NWSL Draft by the Orlando Pride, Cosme missed the majority of the 2022 campaign due to injury. She made her professional debut on March 26 in the 2023 season opener with the Pride. Cosme appeared in six matches with Orlando in the 2023 season along with the Challenge Cup.
A 2022 Blue Devil graduate, Pluck also accepted a non-roster invite for Racing Louisville FC as camp gets started in Louisville, Ky. She is in her second season as a professional, after signing a free agent contract with Angel City FC last season. Pluck saw action in six matches with the squad as a rookie.
Duke currently features nine former players on NWSL preseason rosters – Quinn (Seattle Reign FC), Michelle Cooper (Kansas City), Lily Nabet (Angel City FC), Imani Dorsey (Utah Royals), Boade (Bay FC), Sophie Jones (Chicago Red Stars), Ella Stevens (NY/NJ Gotham FC), Cosme (Bay FC) and Pluck (Racing Louisville).
