CARY, N.C. — As The Soccer Tournament (TST) concluded Monday, Duke women's soccer redshirt junior
Sam Courtwright received Best Seven honors following her outstanding play during the event held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Courtwright led all women with four assists, while adding two goals in six matches. Her eight points ranked tied for third as well. Courtwright scored or assisted in four of the six matches for Simply Futbol FC. She registered a pair of assists May 31 against the two-time reigning champion U.S. Women in a 2-1 victory to advance to the championship.
Courtwright and her Simply Futbol FC team led, 1-0, at the end of regulation, but dropped a 2-1 decision in the championship match against the Iowa Demon Hawks.
Other members of the Best Seven were Elaine Rocha (Iowa Demon Hawks), Andrea Paola (Iowa Demon Hawks), Bella Devey (U.S. Women), Taylor Tufts (Simply Futbol FC), Alex Kimball (U.S. Women) and Kierra Blundell (Rated FC).
Duke graduate
Imani Dorsey helped lead her U.S. Women squad to the semifinals, while her mixed squad, Sneaky FC, fell to Peluche Hawks, 4-3, in the championship.
Sophomore
Avery Oder and her Bumpy Pitch FC mixed team advanced to the semifinals, before dropping a 3-2 decision to Dorsey and Sneaky FC. Junior
Katie Shea Collins guided her Solo FC mixed team to a semifinal appearance as well, before dropping a 2-0 match to Peluche Hawks.
