DURHAM β A trio of former Duke field hockey players continue their quest to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as they travel to Ranchi, India for the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier.
Leah Crouse and
Jillian Wolgemuth will line up for the United States and
Rose Tynan will don the New Zealand crest.
The action in Ranchi, India runs from Jan. 13-19 with the teams finishing in the top three of the FIH Olympic Qualifier sealing a berth in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. CBS Sports Network will air the United States' group games.
Crouse and Wolgemuth both were members of the USA Field Hockey Women's National Team that took second at the 2023 Pan American games in October. They are two of the 18 players selected by head coach David Passmore to the roster for the FIH Olympic Qualifier.
Pool play for the No. 15 United States squad gets underway Jan. 13 at 9 a.m. (ET) against host and sixth-ranked India. Less than 24 hours later Crouse and Wolgemuth take on Italy Jan. 14 at 6:30 a.m. (ET).
The 19th-ranked Italian team took eighth at the EuroHockey Championships in August.
The final game of pool play pits the Blue Devils against each other as the United States takes on No. 9 New Zealand. That game is set for Jan. 16 at 6:30 a.m. (ET). The U.S. and New Zealand played each other in a series last month with Β both teams winning one game.
With pool play complete, crossover games commence Jan. 18 with the top two teams from each pool heading into a semifinal. The final will take place Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. (ET) with both teams guaranteed a spot in the Olympics. The final qualifying spot will be decided in the bronze medal match prior to the final at 6 a.m. (ET).
"While we know our group poses a tough challenge starting with an in-form India team coming of the back of their Asian Games victory," said United States head coach David Passmore. "It will be special to play them in front of a large impartial Ranchi crowd, but we coped well with that pressure in Chile. New Zealand have improved significantly since last summer and we will know we will need to put a full 60-minute performance in against them which we only saw glimpses of in our recent series in Charlotte."
Tynan and New Zealand open action Jan. 13 at 6:30 a.m. (ET) against Italy. They take on host India Jan. 14 at 9 a.m. (ET) before rounding out their schedule against the United States.
The other pool consists of Germany, Japan, Chile and Czech Republic.
CBS Sports Network will cover only the U.S. Women's National Teams pool play games and crossovers. The full event can be streamed on Watch.Hockey for $5.99, not including taxes and fees.
