THE OPENING HIT:

Duke continues ACC play this weekend with games against Wake Forest and Boston College. The fifth-ranked Blue Devils head to Winston-Salem for a top-five matchup against the No. 3 Demon Deacons, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m., before returning home to host the Eagles at noon Sept. 27. Both games will air live on ACCNX.
Julia Boehringer and Philine Klas earned ACC weekly honors for Sept. 22 after helping lead Duke to a 1-0 win over No. 9 Virginia this past weekend. Boehringer collected ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal, while Klas was tabbed ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week following her defensive save on the Cavaliers' lone penalty corner of the game. Both individuals helped the Duke defense hold the Cavaliers to a season-low three shots and their first scoreless outing of the season.
Duke has spread around the wealth on offense this season with 11 different goal scorers. Five players have netted multiple goals on the year, led by Ashley Stockdale with six.
In the ACC team statistics, Duke ranks first in total points (62), second in assists (16), points per game (8.86) and total goals (23) and third in goals per game (3.29).

BOEHRINGER, KLAS CROWNED ACC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:

After helping lead the Blue Devils to a 1-0 win over No. 9 Virginia, Duke junior Julia Boehringer and graduate student Philine Klas garnered ACC weekly honors. Boehringer was tabbed the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while Klas collected ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Boehringer scored the game-winning goal, converting on a penalty corner at the 13:30 mark of the first quarter. Her marker proved to be the difference as Duke captured its first ranked win of the 2026 campaign. She owns four points this season on a goal and two assists.
Klas recorded a defensive save on Virginia's lone penalty corner of the game (1st quarter, 5:56) and aided the Blue Devil defense to their fourth shutout of the year. Duke held UVA without a shot for nearly 30 minutes of game action, to just three total attempts during the game -- a season-low -- and to its first scoreless outing of the season.

DUKE-WAKE FOREST SERIES HISTORY

Duke and Wake Forest are set to face off for the 88th time, with Duke holding a 48-39 ledger in the all-time series.
Friday marks the 18th time the Blue Devils and Demon Deacons battle as ranked foes (WF leads, 11-6) and just the third meeting with both teams ranked inside the NFHCA top five. In the previous two contests as top-five foes, No. 4 Duke knocked out No. 2 Wake Forest, 3-2, in the 2005 NCAA Semifinal, with Wake Forest getting their get back during the 2006 NCAA Semifinal via a 5-4 (2OT) triumph.
Duke and Wake Forest have split the last 10 meetings in the series, with the Demon Deacons claiming the victory in last season's matchup, 3-1. Prior to that, the Blue Devils had won four straight.

DUKE-BOSTON COLLEGE SERIES HISTORY

The Blue Devils and Eagles meet for their 30th all-time meeting Sunday. Duke owns a 17-12 record in the series between the two programs, including a 3-1 victory in 2025.
Duke and Boston College have split the last 10 matchups down the middle, with each side going 5-5. The Blue Devils have had the more recent success with three of the last four wins.

AFTER SEVEN GAMES:

No. 5 Duke enters the weekend with a 5-2 record after seven games. Both losses came in tightly-contested battles against current NFHCA top-10 teams: No. 1 Northwestern and No. 2 Maryland.
The Blue Devils have found success on penalty corners with 11 of the squad's 23 goals coming via set pieces.
Ashley Stockdale has emerged as a threat for the Blue Devils this season, scoring in five of Duke's first seven contests. She currently paces the squad with six tallies and an assist for 13 points.
Alaina McVeigh has been strong on set pieces and in the run of play with a team-best four assists - No. 2 in the ACC. She has scored three times this season and is second on the team with 10 points.
Duke's defense has been strong, posting four shutouts on the year. The Blue Devils have held their opponents to fewer than 10 shots in five games, including four teams to less than five attempts.

WHAT GIVES?

When Duke and Wake Forest square off Friday night, it will be a battle between two of the top programs in the ACC this season. The Blue Devils and Demon Deacons enter the weekend both ranked in the top three of numerous ACC statistical categories.
In the NCAA rankings, the Blue Devils are fourth in shutouts per game (0.57), seventh in penalty corners per game (8.29) and 11th in goals against average (0.92).
Wake Forest is fourth in scoring margin (2.94), seventh in scoring average (3.93), 10th in shutouts per game (0.43) and sits just outside the top 10 with 3.43 goals per game.

STRONG DEFENSE – THEY CAN'T SCORE IF THEY CAN'T SHOOT:

Duke's defense has been strong during the 2026 season. The Blue Devils continuously bring relentless pressure in the midfield while forcing the opposition into ill-advised passes.
The Blue Devils lead the ACC and rank 11th nationally with a 0.92 goals against average. Duke's four shutouts on the year are currently tied for first in the conference, while the team's 0.57 shutouts per game average ranks first in the ACC and fourth in the NCAA.
Part of Duke's success defensively is that the Blue Devils don't even give their opponents the chance to score, allowing just 6.9 shots per game. Among NFHCA programs ranked in the NFHCA top 20, the 6.9 shots per game is currently tied for the fifth lowest nationally.
Duke has held five opponents to less than 10 shots and four teams to fewer than five attempts. Against Virginia, the Blue Devils held the Cavaliers without a shot for nearly 30 minutes of game action and to just three attempts for the whole game.
The Blue Devils are allowing just 3.1 penalty corners per game, which is also tied for the fifth-fewest by an NFHCA top-20 team.
