DURHAM – Former Duke right-handed pitcher Bryce Jarvis was elevated to the Arizona Diamondbacks big league roster on Sunday, after an impressive 25 game stretch in the minor leagues this season.
Jarvis joins Matt Mervis as the second former Duke baseball player to make his major league debut this season.
In his 25 appearances this season (19 starts) across both double-A and triple-A, Jarvis has posted a 9-5 record on the mound, working 102.2 innings. The Franklin, Tenn., native has punched out 110 batters during the 2023 campaign and has held opponents to a .249 average at the plate.
The former No. 18 overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks became the 13th All-American in program history following the 2020 season, while tossing the 31st perfect game in NCAA Division I history on Feb. 21 against Cornell.
During his time at Duke, Jarvis collected a 13-4 record on the bump, appearing in 48 games for the Blue Devils with 20 starts. He worked over 150 innings during his career, tallying 201 strikeouts and posting a 2.81 ERA.
Prior to his call to the Major Leagues on Sunday, Jarvis was ranked the Diamondbacks No. 29 prospect in their farm system. Jarvis made the switch from a starting role to a reliever during his time in triple-A this season to address an area of need within the organization.
