DURHAM – With the Leagues Cup in full swing for Major League Soccer clubs, the latest update for former Duke men's soccer standouts in MLS is below.
Sean Davis – Nashville SC
Davis has kept up his consistent play for the Nashville club, making four starts in his last five appearances. Most recently, Davis logged a 100% pass completion rate, going 28-for-28, while playing 55 minutes in Nashville SC's 2-1 victory over Colorado in a Leagues Cup match on July 23. The flawless pass completion rate marked Davis' first time doing so since going 43-for-43 in a regular season MLS match on Aug. 27, 2022.
Jeremy Ebobisse – San Jose Earthquakes
Ebobisse has added five more starts since late June, playing all but 10 of the available 450 minutes in those games. With his consistent selection to the starting 11, Ebobisse has now extended his streak of consecutive MLS starts to 23 this season and 58 in a row dating back to 2021. The forward sits on seven goals and two assists this season and the Earthquakes are currently tied with Austin FC for fifth in the Western Conference with 32 points.
Sebastien Ibeagha – FC Dallas
Ibeagha remains a steady defending presence for the club and has maintained his strong play for FC Dallas. Since the start of July, the former Blue Devil has played every available minute in FC Dallas' four regular season MLS matches and two Leagues Cup fixtures. The former Blue Devil has now made 17 starts this season in 21 appearances and has helped the club remain in the playoff hunt. FC Dallas currently sits in eighth in the Western Conference with 30 points.
Shakur Mohammed – Orlando City B
Mohammed continues to play significant minutes for Orlando City SC's MLS NEXT squad and was also available as a substitute for the MLS squad's match against Real Salt Lake in early July. Mohammed has played at least 80 minutes in three of his last four starts for Orlando City B and tallied an assist in a 5-3 victory over Cincinnati's MLS NEXT team in early July.
Ian Murphy – FC Cincinnati
Murphy has appeared in three FC Cincinnati matches since the start of July, making two starts and playing at least 63 minutes in both of those matches. Murphy appeared to have scored his first career goal in a Leagues Cup fixture against Sporting Kansas City with a soaring header in the box, but the goal was later changed to an own goal. Regardless of the statistical change, Murphy and FC Cincinnati rallied from an early two-goal deficit to secure a 4-2 victory in penalties against Kansas City.
Peter Stroud – New York Red Bulls
Progressing through his rookie season, Stroud played all 90 minutes in mid-July for Red Bulls, logging a 91.2% pass completion rate after going 31-for-34 with his distribution. The agile midfielder has yet to score a goal but has remained in the rotation for the club, having made five appearances so far throughout the month.
Thorleifur Úlfarsson – Houston Dynamo
Úlfarsson logged his first assist of the season in early July, setting up a stoppage-time equalizer with a neatly placed header into the penalty box for his teammate to slot home. The forward has proven to be a spark off the bench as of late, with all of his July appearances coming as a substitution – including three directly out of the halftime break. Úlfarsson and the club are currently ninth in the Western Conference and seeking to remain in playoff contention as the regular season continues on.
Brian White – Vancouver Whitecaps FC
White has remained a strong attacker for Vancouver and has started in every MLS regular season match in the month of July. He scored his eighth goal of the season in the Whitecaps' 4-2 win over LA Galaxy on July 15, placing a header into the lower right corner of the goal and past the diving goalkeeper. White's eight goals this season lead the club and is tied for 12th-most by a player in MLS this season. The Whitecaps are currently firmly in the playoff hunt with 31 points, good for seventh in the Western Conference.
