DURHAM – The 2023 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American team, powered by Diamond Sports, was announced by the organization on Wednesday morning. The 2023 team features two Duke athletes, as lefties
Andrew Healy and
James Tallon were named to the team.
Healy, a 6-foot-6 left-handed pitcher, began his career out of the bullpen during the early stages of the season, before moving into the midweek starting role in the middle of March. Healy then moved into the weekend rotation, posting a 5-1 record on the mound in 18 appearances. He has struck out 42 batters while only walking six and recorded a perfect month of April, finishing with a 5-0 record to earn the Dick Howser Pitcher of the Month Award.
Tallon, a 6-foot-5 left-handed pitcher, has been the Blue Devils' closer this season, tying the single season saves after recording his 11th of the year in a game at Miami to finish out the regular season. In his 22 appearances, Tallon has posted a 1.69 ERA and allowed just six earned runs to score. He has tallied 56 strikeouts to just 10 walks and opponents are only batting .183 off the freshman.
