DURHAM – Multiple former Duke men's soccer players have made impacts on the professional level so far this year, including eight Blue Devils playing for Major League Soccer clubs and affiliates.
Sean Davis – Nashville SC
The former two-time captain for the Blue Devils, Davis is now in his second season with Nashville SC. The midfielder has appeared in 17 of Nashville's 19 games so far this season, including 14 starts. He currently holds the third-best passing percentage of his career at .856, while logging one assist so far this year. Nashville sits in second in the Eastern Conference with 35 points.
Jeremy Ebobisse – San Jose Earthquakes
Ebobisse has continued his strong attacking form this season, having scored seven goals so far this year for the Earthquakes. The forward has started all 19 matches in the 2023 campaign and dating back to the 2021 season, Ebobisse has started 54 consecutive matches. His offensive prowess extends past scoring as well, as he has also tallied two assists. The Earthquakes are currently fifth in the Western Conference with 27 points.
Sebastien Ibeagha – FC Dallas
After winning the MLS Cup in 2022 with Los Angeles FC, Ibeagha signed with FC Dallas for the 2023 season. The defender has started his time with the club on a strong note, scoring his first career goal and logging his first career assist. Ibeagha has played in 17 matches for the club, while making 13 starts – already eclipsing the number of starts he had in 2022. FC Dallas currently sits in sixth in the Western Conference with 26 points.
Shakur Mohammed – Orlando City B
After signing a Generation adidas contract and being drafted second overall in this year's MLS Draft, Mohammed is currently playing Orlando's MLS NEXT Pro side. The midfielder has started in his last four appearances, playing at least 69 minutes in each of those starts, and has scored two goals in that span. His first goal for Orlando City B put his side ahead, 3-2, in the 64th minute and eventually proved to be the game-winner.
Ian Murphy – FC Cincinnati
Following a four-year career in Durham, Murphy is now in his second season for FC Cincinnati, after being drafted in 2022. The defender has logged nine total appearances for his club, including starts in his last four. Murphy has played the full 90 in three of those four starts and has only allowed one goal in that span. FC Cincinnati sits atop the Eastern Conference table with just one loss and a total of 43 points.
Peter Stroud – New York Red Bulls
The two-time ACC Midfielder of the Year is in his first year of MLS action, after signing a Homegrown contract with Red Bulls. Stroud balanced appearances for both Red Bulls and their MLS NEXT side early on in the season but has stepped into a more prominent role for the MLS squad as of late, making six straight starts. While the midfielder has yet to tally a goal or assist, his presence on the pitch has been noticed with a strong, accurate pass percentage (.827) and a nearly 60 percent duel percentage rate (.594). Red Bulls are currently 13th in the Eastern Conference with 20 points.
Thorleifur Úlfarsson – Houston Dynamo
The former ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Úlfarsson has continued to make his presence felt for the Dynamo through the early stages of the season. The forward has played in 12 games, making one start. His latest appearance, as a substitute in Houston's match against San Jose, finished with the former Blue Devil slotting home two goals to secure his first MLS brace in just 16 minutes of action and earning Úlfarsson a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday. His accurate shot percentage has improved since 2022, going from .421 last year to .636 this season.
Brian White – Vancouver Whitecaps FC
A prolific forward, White has put together a stellar season so far this year. White has earned Team of the Week nods twice already this year (Matchday 11, Matchday 16), and has played in 16 games, while making 14 starts. He has scored eight goals across all competitions, including six in MLS action, to lead the team. On Matchday 16, White logged his first assist of the season, while also scoring a goal just 10 seconds into the second half – the fastest goal to begin a second half in league history since 2011.
