DURHAM – Four Blue Devils were tabbed as Perfect Game All-Americans on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the organization.
Sophomore
Fran Oschell III was named to the second team, while freshman
Andrew Healy and
James Tallon were tabbed to the freshman first team as pitchers. Freshman infielder
Andrew Fischer was named to the freshman second team.
Oschell appeared in 22 games for the Blue Devils in 2023, working 39.1 innings. He allowed just 18 hits and three earned runs, to boast a 0.69 ERA on the year. The Phoenixville, Pa., native struck out 66 batters and held opponents to a .133 batting average against.
Tallon, a 6-foot-5 left-handed pitcher, was Duke's closer this season, breaking the single season saves record on Friday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va. He tallied his 12th save of the season to pass
Kenny Koplove, who held the record with 11. In his 23 appearances this season, Tallon posted a 1.64 ERA and allowed just six earned runs to score. He fanned 54 batters to just 11 walks and opponents hit. 185 off the lefty.
Healy, a 6-foot-6 left-handed pitcher, began the season out of the bullpen before switching to a midweek role. Towards the end of the season, Healy joined the weekend rotation, posting a 5-1 record on the mound and boasted a 2.32 ERA. The Glen Mills, Pa., native was a perfect 5-0 in the month of April, sporting a 0.00 ERA to earn the Dick Howser Pitcher of the Month award. Healy recorded 45 strikeouts and walked just seven batters in 2023.
Fischer, a 6-foot-1 infielder, broke the single season freshman home run record at Duke, tallying 11 long balls in 2023. The Manasquan, N.J., native missed nearly a month of action due to injury but finished the campaign with 50 hits (27 for extra bases) and 33 RBI. He drew 29 walks and completed the season with a .595 slugging percentage.
