JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior
Beau Allen and graduate student
Robbie Otal pushed the Duke men's track and field team's NCAA Outdoor Championship bid total to three as the duo used solid individual performances to finish among the top 10 in their respective field events and punch their tickets to nationals.
Allen and Otal are set to join senior
Luke Jackson, who secured his second straight NCAA berth in the men's javelin on Wednesday, at the national meet in Austin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Otal opened the Friday slate of events for the Duke men and punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships – his second in as many seasons – with another steady showing in the discus throw.
- The Oak Park, Calif., native delivered his best throw on his final attempt and hurled the discus 57.03m (187-1 feet), checking in at No. 7 in the East prelims.
- Allen advances to the national meet for the first time in his career after placing 10th in the NCAA East Regional high jump field.
- After passing on the first height, Allen cleared the next two on his first attempt and finished with a final leap of 2.09m (6-10 feet) to book his spot in Austin.
