CORAL GABLES, Fla. – No. 11 Miami (36-18, 17-12 ACC) hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th to defeat No. 16 Duke (35-18, 16-12 ACC), 10-8. Friday marks the first time this season that the Blue Devils have lost a game when leading after the sixth, seventh or eighth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Andrew Fischer singled to center field in the top of the first to score Alex Mooney from second, 1-0. Junior Alex Stone doubled down the line in left to score Fischer from third, 2-0.
- Miami tied the ballgame in the bottom of the third inning, 2-2.
- Junior Jay Beshears hit a three-run home run in the top of the third, 5-2.
- The Hurricanes scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth, 5-3.
- In the top of the sixth, Beshears singled to left field to score Mooney from third, 6-3. Graduate transfer MJ Metz drew a bases loaded walk to increase the lead, 7-3. Graduate transfer Giovanni DiGiacomo drew a bases loaded walk to increase the lead, 8-3.
- Miami cut into the lead in the bottom of the eighth, 8-6.
- The Hurricanes tied the ballgame in the bottom of the ninth, 8-8.
- Miami hits a two-run walk off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning, 10-8.
NOTES
- Junior Alex Stone extended his hitting streak to 27 games on Friday evening in the first inning. Stone also collected his first three-hit game of the season.
- Junior Jay Beshears hit a three-run home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning to tie the single season team home run record with 90 home runs. Beshears' home run was his 11th of the season.
- Friday evening marks the first time this season that Duke has lost a game after leading following the sixth, seventh or eighth inning.
- Sophomore Alex Mooney tallied his 21st multi-hit game of the season, leading the team ahead of Stone who has 20 multi-hit games.
