DURHAM – Duke track and field battled inclement weather conditions all day Friday during the second day of the Duke Invitational, but the Blue Devils were able to power through and churn out 17 top-10 placements on the day.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Making her outdoor track debut for the Blue Devils, sophomore Amina Maatoug posted a runner-up finish in the women's 1500m invite.
- Maatoug finished below the previous meet record time of 4:19.00, clocking 4:18.80 to take second. Senior Emily Cole (4:24.46) placed ninth and graduate student Karly Forker (4:24.51) took 10th to round out the trio of Duke competitors.
- Heavy rain and windy conditions didn't deter Duke in the women's 200m dash as the Blue Devils claimed two of the top-five spots and had six finish in the top 10, with four Duke athletes registering personal or season best times dash.
- Sophomore Megan McGinnis and freshman Julia Jackson led the charge as the pair finished back-to-back in second and third place, respectively, via personal-best times of 23.68 seconds and 23.90 seconds.
- Graduate student Madison Mulder, senior Maya Provencal and sophomore Meredith Sims were the next to cross the finish line for the Blue Devils, finishing in succession of each other.
- Mulder clocked 24.48 seconds to place sixth, Sims took seventh via a run of 24.50 seconds and Provencal finished in eighth on a time of 24.68 seconds. Maddy Dietz rounded out the Blue Devils in the top-10, turning in a 24.80 second finish.
- On the men's side, Duke logged a pair of top-10 placements as well as freshman Guinness Brown clocked 22.03 seconds for a fourth-place finish while junior Alejandro Rodriguez took 10th after crossing the finish line in 22.56 seconds.
- The men's and women's 800m invite saw two Duke athletes finish among the top-10 as well.
- Freshman Lauren Tolbert paced the Blue Devils on the women's side with a fifth-place finish behind a time of 2:06.54, while graduate student Arianna Gragg's personal-best run of 2:08.83 was good for ninth.
- Junior Jackson Walker and sophomore Beck Wittstadt placed fifth and eighth in the men's race, respectively, via times of 1:51.55 and 1:52.90.
- Duke capped the night with two more top-five finishes in the men's and women's 5,000m race via personal-best performances by senior Sam Rivera and junior Kelli Wilson.
- Rivera collected a third-place finish in his race behind a finish of 14:02.94. Wilson clocked 16:32.24, good for fifth among the field.
- After five events, sophomore Max Forte currently sits atop the men's decathlon field with 3,487 points. Forte has finished among the top two in each event, including wins in the 100m, long jump, high jump and 400m.

UP NEXT
An action-packed Saturday slate opens with the women's high jump along with the final events of the men's decathlon at 10:00 a.m. On the track, Duke gets going at 11:00 a.m., in the 4x100m relay.
