Weekend Details
- The Blue Devils are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 2013 NCAA Championship Saturday against Syracuse. Duke and the Orange face off at 12 p.m., on ESPNU.
- Duke will recognize the 2013 team on the field at halftime of the contest. The Blue Devils defeated Syracuse, 16-10, in 2013 for the program's second national title.
The Opening Faceoff
- Duke, 11-2 on the year, sits at No. 2 in the national polls following a 15-14 win against Virginia. Faceoff against the Orange is set for 12 p.m., on ESPNU at Koskinen Stadium.
- Syracuse dropped to 1-4 in league action and to 8-6 overall with a 19-12 loss to Virginia last weekend. The Orange are 19th in the USILA poll and 15th in Inside Lacrosse rankings. Syracuse is 2-2 in road games this season.
- The attack unit of Andrew McAdorey, Brennan O'Neill and Dyson Williams have paced the Blue Devils. The trio is averaging 8.1 goals and 11.8 points per game and has 51 percent of the team's 303 points. Duke has gotten goals from 22 different players this season.
- Duke's defense has been solid overall, holding teams to just .290 shooting and to 11 goals per game. The Blue Devils are allowing 11 goals per game over the past seven outings, which included four games against teams with top-15 scoring offenses .
- Graduate student transfer William Helm is solid in the cage, averaging 11 saves per game and sporting a .514 save percentage.
- Junior faceoff specialist Jake Naso features a .633 win percentage at the dot to rank sixth nationally. He ranks sixth in faceoffs taken (349). Johnny Richiusa is 41 percent (99-of-239) from the dot, taking 58 percent of the draws.

About Syracuse
- Syracuse comes to Durham with an 8-6 overall record and a 1-4 mark in conference play. The Orange most recently fell to Virginia in Charlottesville, 19-12, their second largest margin of defeat this season. Syracuse is allowing 17.2 goals per game in conference play.
- Syracuse is led on offense by freshman Joey Spallina with 63 points, while Owen Hiltz has 50.
- On the defensive side of the ball, Syracuse is allowing nearly 12 goals per game overall and has given up at least 15 in four games this season. Saam Olexo is the top takeaway artist with 25 caused turnovers, while Nick Caccamo has 16. Olexo also has 50 ground balls to lead all non-faceoff specialists in the ACC.
- Johnny Richiusa and Jack Fine share faceoff duties. Richiusa has taken 58 percent of the restarts, winning 41 percent. Fine is at 45 percent. In goal, Will Mark leads the ACC and ranks eighth nationally with 14 saves per game. His .556 save percentage is seventh among Division I goaltenders.

Last Time We Met
- Charles Balsamo scored with 54 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the fifth-ranked Blue Devils to a thrilling 14-13 victory at No. 20 Syracuse earlier this season. It marked Duke's first win on the Orange's home field. Junior Brennan O'Neill led the Blue Devils once again with four goals and two assists for six points.
- After trailing 5-1 in the first 13 minutes, Duke clawed its way back and used a 6-0 run in the third quarter to go ahead for the first time with 3:36 remaining in the period.
- William Helm made a save at the end of regulation and again in overtime to help the Blue Devils to victory. Syracuse goaltender Will Mark was outstanding in making 22 saves on the afternoon.
Series History
- Duke meets Syracuse for the 23rd time overall and for the 13th time as ACC foes. The Orange hold a 14-8 lead in the series, but 2-5 against Duke in Durham. Duke is 2-3 in the past five meetings.
- The Blue Devils last defeated Syracuse at Koskinen in a 15-14 thriller in 2021. Mike Adler made a last second save to ice the victory. Earlier this season on the road, Charles Balsamo called game with an overtime goal.
Close Calls
- Eight of the past 11 - and five of the past six – matchups between Duke and Syracuse have been decided by a single goal with four of them going into overtime. Duke is 3-5 in those one-goal games.
- Since 2013 when Syracuse joined the ACC, Duke and Syracuse have played 12 times and eight have been decided by one goal. The margin of victory in that span is 3.67 goals - which includes a 14-goal victory by Duke and a 12-goal win from Syracuse.
Home Sweet Home
- Duke had its 14-game home win streak snapped in 2022 against Jacksonville, but overall the Blue Devils have fared well at home.
- Duke is 139-25 (.848) in games in Durham under head coach John Danowski and 7-0 this season. The Blue Devils have gone unbeaten at home three times since 2007 (2008, 2012, 2021).
- This season, Duke has outscored its opponents at home, 118-65 and is shooting .358 at Koskinen compared to .287 on the road.
Getting Off The Line Well
- Duke has gotten off to fast starts in its contests this season, leading after the first quarter in 10 of the 13 games. The Blue Devils are outscoring their foes 114-53 in the first half, including an impressive 60-26 mark in the second quarter.
- Duke is 9-1 when leading after the opening period and 10-1 when leading at halftime. The Blue Devils' opponents are shooting just 21 percent in the first half. In the second half this season, Duke has been outscored, 90-82.
