DURHAM – Duke and Boston College clash Wednesday in ACC Tournament quarterfinal action at American Legion Memorial Stadium. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m., on ACC Network.
OPENING DRAW
- Duke and Boston College meet for the 22nd time in program history as the Blue Devils hold a dominant 15-6 lead in the all-time series.
- The two last met February 25 -- the first game of the ACC slate -- as the Eagles secured a 17-8 win in Chestnut Hill. The Blue Devils are 2-0 in neutral site games over the Eagles.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Boston College comes into Wednesday's contest as the No. 4 team in the nation with a 13-3 overall record. It earned the top seed in the tournament after knocking off then-No. 1 Syracuse (17-16) in the ACC regular season finale.
- Boston College has numerous offensive threats and boast four players with 50 or more points, with Jenn Medjid leading the way with 83 points from 64 goals and 19 assists. She is tied for third nationally in goals and fifth in total points. Mckenna Davis leads the team with 49 assists to rank third nationally. Defensively, Sydney Scales owns 33 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers.
- Goalie Shea Dolce has played just over 600 minutes in the cage and sports a 9.02 GAA and a .471 save percentage. The freshman has stepped up in the absence of Rachel Hall, who hasn't played since March 19.
LAST TIME WE MET
- Duke's fourth-quarter rally fell short as fourth-ranked Boston College defeated 10th-ranked Duke, 17-8, on February 25.
- Duke's fourth-quarter comeback, sparked by a hat trick by junior Katie DeSimone, came up short as three Eagles finished with a hat trick of their own to lead the home side.
- DeSimone tallied three goals on five shots while graduate student Maddie Jenner added two scores and an assist. DeSimone filled up the stat sheet with two ground balls and a caused turnover in her all-around performance.
- Jenn Medjid, Mckenna Davis and Kayla Martello combined for 18 points in the victory.
DUKE IN THE ACC TOURNAMENT
- Under the direction of head coach Kerstin Kimel, the Blue Devils are 13-24 all-time in the ACC Championship and 0-1 in quarterfinal games. 2023 marks the first time Duke has received the No. 9 seed as the conference expanded and again this spring to 10 teams.
- Duke will face Boston College in conference tournament action for just the third time. Duke won the previous two matchups -- 2009 (16-5) and 2010 (17-6). The two have never met in the quarterfinals.
- Duke is in search of its 20th trip to the ACC Tournament semifinal and the first since 2019.
- The Blue Devils own one ACC title, which came in 2005.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Should Duke advance, it will face either fifth-seeded Notre Dame or fourth-seeded Virginia Friday in the semifinals. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m., on ACC Network.
