RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 14 Duke rowing stroked their way to first-place finishes in 10 of their 11 races on the opening day of the Lake Wheeler Invitational.
The Blue Devils lead the 18-team field with 66 points heading into the second day of competition. No. 9 Syracuse and No. 8 Penn follow closely behind with 63 and 62 points, respectively.
Saturday's race schedule has been modified due to expected inclement weather. Three heats of the Varsity Eight will open the day at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four races. The Third Varsity Eight heats are slated for 9:07 a.m. to round out action in the two-day event.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke's Third Varsity Eight boat opened the invitational in strong fashion after gliding past the crews from Alabama, Clemson and North Carolina to a first-place time of 6:42.049.
- The Second Varsity Four followed with another first-place finish, clocking a time of 07:17.157, nearly 12 seconds ahead of second-place Alabama.
- The Varsity Four and Second Varsity Eight continued the momentum with a pair of wins over boats from Alabama, Washington State, Clemson, Boston College and North Carolina. The V4 recorded a time of 7:12.673 while the 2V8 finished in 6:27.016.
- The Blue Devils' Varsity Eight boat completed the morning session sweep after posting a winning time of 06:25.624.
- The Blue Devils closed out the afternoon session with five additional first-place finishes in the 3V8, 2V4, V4, 2V8 and V8 races.
