Blue Devils Bring Pocock Cup Back to Durham

RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 14 Duke rowing team earned four first-place finishes during the second day of the Lake Wheeler Invitational to edge No. 9 Syracuse and No. 8 Penn and capture the 2023 Pocock Cup.
The Blue Devils claimed the title for the third time in four years after Syracuse took home the trophy in 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
"Today was a total team effort. Every single boat, all weekend long, did their job. Every coach did their job. Every boat did their job. The alumni, the parents, the regatta director Emilie Gross, it takes a village but we did a great job and brought back the cup to Durham." – Head Coach Megan Cooke Carcagno on the team's efforts this weekend.
UP NEXT
Duke returns to Lake Wheeler for the ACC Championships on May 12-13. The Blue Devils will co-host the championship with North Carolina.

The Blue Devils claimed the title for the third time in four years after Syracuse took home the trophy in 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Duke's Varsity Eight placed third in its opening race of the morning session, clocking a time of 6:37.509.
- The Second Varsity Eight followed with a second-place finish, just three seconds behind the crew from Penn. The 2V8 improved their time from yesterday by over 12 seconds to cross the finish line at 6:49.079.
- The Blue Devils collected wins in the Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Fourth Varsity Eight races to hold a one-point lead over Syracuse heading into the final event.
- The 3V8 lineup of coxswain Ava Liebmann, Ashley Whipple, Anna McKane, Meera Chakrabarti, Morven Thomson, Stella Haley, Natalie Ashton, Charlotte Sendek and Haley Dion posted a winning time of 7:06.328 to seal the team's victory.
- Duke came out on top with 88 total points as Syracuse (86) finished second and Penn (82) placed third.
