DURHAM – Duke welcomes No. 6 North Carolina to Koskinen Stadium Thursday for its final home game of the 2023 season. Opening draw is set for 5:30 p.m., with Drew Carter and Dana Boyle on the call on ESPNU. Duke will also honor its seniors following the game.
OPENING DRAW
- Duke and North Carolina meet for the 43rd time in program history as the Tar Heels hold a dominant 28-14 record in the all-time series.
- The Blue Devils have lost 13 consecutive to the Tar Heels and last won in Durham in 2011.
LAST TIME OUT
- Duke dropped a 14-13 decision to Louisville on the road Saturday afternoon at U of L Lacrosse Stadium.
- Cubby Biscardi reached 100 caused turnovers for her career with her four. She is just the sixth Blue Devil in program history to reach the mark.
- Offensively, the Blue Devils were led by Carly Bernstein with three goals and an assist while Caroline DeBellis, Katie Keller and Kerry Nease all added two goals each.
- Duke has gone 4-8 since starting the season 3-0.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
- North Carolina comes into Thursday's contest 11-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play. The No. 6 team nationally most recently dropped a 14-12 decision to No. 1 Syracuse (4/15).
- Offensively, the Tar Heels are led by Caitlyn Wurzburger with 55 points (29G, 26A) and Reilly Casey (25G, 28A). Caroline Godine (37 pts) and Marissa White (36 pts) are also solid contributors while midfielder Emily Nalls paces the defensive unit with 18 caused turnovers, 16 ground balls and 31 draw controls.
- Goalie Alecia Nicholas boasts an 8.48 GAA, which ranks eighth nationally, and a .484 save percentage.
- North Carolina features the 17th-best scoring offense in the nation -- 14.79 -- and the seventh-best scoring defense -- 8.36.
LAUNCHING LAX PROGRAMS
- Head coaches Jenny Levy and Kerstin Kimel are longtime close friends, as North Carolina and Duke each launched their women's lacrosse programs in 1996.
- They represent two of the winningest head coaches in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history -- Levy 2nd, Kimel 7th
