Duke Wins Five in Day Two of Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – Duke rowing wrapped up competition in the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational after taking first place in five of its six races on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn., Sunday morning.

The Blue Devils won 12 of 18 races in the two-day regatta and earned strong second-place finishes in the remaining six races.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Third Varsity Eight boat opened the morning for the Blue Devils and cruised to a first-place finish with a time of 7:01.388, outracing Wisconsin and Tennessee by nearly 12 and 23 seconds, respectively.
The Blue Devils posted three more winning times in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four races to stroke past crews from Tennessee and Louisville.
The Second Varsity Eight race came down to a photo finish with Duke narrowly edging Tennessee to claim the victory.
The 2V8+ crew of coxswain Audrey Kline, Lauren Brandmeyer, Amelia Shunk, Emilie Lijesen, Noelle Fuchs, Sophia Greco, Nora Conaty, Erin Temple and Chelsea Proutt clocked a time of 6:31.279, with Tennessee finishing at 6:31.361.
The Third Varsity Four boat rounded out the weekend racing with a second-place finish behind Tennessee, clocking a time of 7:35.735.
