DURHAM – No. 15 Duke fell to No. 16 Yale, 15-14, Tuesday evening in women's lacrosse non-conference action at Koskinen Stadium.
Yale's Jenna Collignon tallied seven goals, including the eventual game winner with 2:44 remaining, to help lead the Bulldogs to victory.
The Blue Devils were led by junior
Katie DeSimone with six goals and an assist for seven points, while graduate student
Maddie Jenner added a hat trick in the setback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Yale quickly opened the scoring 33 seconds into the contest and notched a second shortly after as Fallon Vaughn found Taylor Lane for two quick scores. Trailing 6-2 with 1:28 remaining in the opening frame, Maddie Jenner and Katie Keller helped spark a 5-0 scoring run that would span three minutes into the second.
- Yale scored the equalizer (7-7) at 11:45 in the second as Collignon connected on the first of three consecutive goals in seven minutes. DeSimone and Jenner tacked on two goals just before halftime to make it a one-point contest (10-9) at the break.
- The Bulldogs outshot the Blue Devils 13-7 in the second quarter and put eight shots on cage.
- After intermission, the next 30 minutes were back and forth. The Blue Devils held a slight advantage and outscored Yale 3-2 in the third quarter as Olivia Carner tallied a goal and dished a helper.
- All tied up at 12 to start the fourth quarter, DeSimone and Carner tallied their sixth and second goals, respectively, to close out Duke's scoring for the evening with seven minutes remaining. Both squads got several good looks on cage, but ultimately Yale netted the tying goal (14-14) with 3:49 remaining before Collignon's seventh goal at 2:44 to hand Yale the victory.

- Duke moves to 4-4 overall this spring.
- The all-time series with Yale moves to 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
- Carner filled up the stat sheet as the all-around midfielder that she is. She added two goals and two helpers to go along with a career-high matching four caused turnovers, three ground balls and three draw controls.
- Jenner tallied 15 draw controls, her second most this season.
- Duke has lost four of its last five games.
- Freshman goalie Madison Drebing made her first career start in goal. She played 28 minutes and finished with four saves.
